A proposal made by the railways more than three years ago to benefit senior citizens in the city has failed to bear fruit. The proposal was put forward by the railways to attach an extra coach to benefit senior citizens. The proposal would have ensured easy availability of tickets for senior citizens and avoid inconvenience to them while boarding the train. But, the proposed coach still needs to see the light of the day. Following the lackadaisical attitude of the officials, the senior citizens of the city have again demanded to attach an extra coach for them in trains that pass through the Ludhiana Railway Station so that they can board them easily. If the proposal comes into force, it would be easy for them to get tickets on various routes and with the addition of an extra coach more people could be accommodated.Deedar Singh, a retired food and supply officer said, "The railways is least bothered about the problems being faced by senior citizens. Firstly the railway station has no escalators through which senior citizens can move easily. Secondly no separate counter has been made for them to buy tickets."Singh said, "To top it all, no one is bothered to accomplish proposals of attaching a separate coach for senior citizens in trains, which is the need of the hour, as there is heavy flow of passengers at the Ludhiana railway station."The divisional railway manager (DRM), Vishlesh Choube, when contacted said, "We will take up the issue again and will send the proposal to authorities and know the status soon." |
