New Delhi : Forty five touts have been apprehended by Northern Railway in a special week-long drive against illegal ticketing business. "We have carried out a special drive at various reservation and booking offices between April 2 and 10 to prevent touting activities during the ongoing summer rush and apprehended 45 touts involved in illegal sale of tickets," said a senior Northern Railway official. The drive was jointly launched by railway staff and RPF personnel. Besides touts, two unauthorised travel agencies indulging in illegal sale of tickets were also detected by the raiding team. "Two unauthorised travel agencies were detected and 12 tickets recovered from them. The persons involved with the agencies were handed over to RPF for further prosecution under Section 143 of Railway Act," he said. During the preventive check, 43 cases of travelling on transferred tickets were also detected and a sum of Rs 47,982 was realized from them. The official said efforts have been made to provide better and improved passenger amenities like drinking water, cleanliness at waiting halls, stations and in trains during the summer rush.
