The police arrested 100 members of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam when they tried to stage a rail roko at Kuzhuthurai station on Tuesday to urge the authorities of the Southern Railway to operate trains (Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari routes) from platform number 1 instead of platform number 2.It may be noted that the trains crossing from Thiruvananthapuram to Nagercoil have been operated through platform number 2 for the last one month.Owing to the lack of railway over bridge (steel), the passengers have to cross the railway track from platform number 1 to 2. Though the Central Government had already allotted Rs.36 lakhs for the construction of railway over bridge (steel), the work is yet to start. The members led by Killiyur union secretary, Mano Thankaraj, tried to resort to rail roko when the Kanyakumari-Banglaore Island Express was about to reach Kuzuthurai railway station. However, the railway police prevented them. The arrested were later released. The former Tourism Minister, N. Suresh Rajan, MLA, Puspha Leela Alben, former Minister, K.Lawrence and others participated in the agitation. | ||
