With a view to maintaining cleanliness and eradicating ticketless and other irregular modes of travel by trains, the Guntur Railway Division has intensified ticket checking by way of surprise checks at select places across the division.The earnings on ticket checking was put at Rs. 33.94 lakh during April this year as against Rs. 29.26 lakh during the corresponding period the previous year.In all, 30,891 cases (3,622 – travelling without ticket, 2,641 – irregular travel, 13,345 – unbooked luggage carried by passengers beyond permissible capacity, and 11,283 other cases) were booked compared to 24,215 in April 2012.The growth rate is 27.6 per cent in terms of cases and 16 per cent in terms of earnings. Thirty-four passengers were prosecuted during April 2013 as they failed to pay the fine to Railway authorities when caught travelling without proper authority.By way of conducting surprise raids, the division also booked 297 cases between April 20 and 30 against passengers indulging in activities that affected hygiene on the railway premises and in trains. In all, Rs. 55,230 was collected towards fine from them. | ||
