HYDERABAD: Railway stations, be it at Secunderabad, Nampally or Kacheguda, are always crowded. They are quite safe one would imagine. But 87 persons died at the three stations in three months between January and March this year. According to Superintendent of Police, Railway (Secunderabad), M Kantha Rao, 33 passengers died at the Kacheguda railway station and 27 each at Secunderabad and Hyderabad railway stations during this period. All the victims met with accidents while boarding and alighting from running trains. “Accidents at platforms have come down gradually. We took measures to prevent such efforts (getting down from or getting into running trains)by passengers and create awareness among them. We made a special documentary on deaths at platforms and it is being screened on TV sets. We are also distributing pamphlets and making regular announcements at the railway stations to alert the passengers,’’ he said in a statement.
