GUWAHATI – A large number of train users in Assam and rest of the Northeast stand to be affected by a move that will see the termination of the North East Express at Kamakhya instead of Guwahati railway station in the near future. The information has been released to the press by the Assam Rail Passengers’ Association.Dipankar Sarma of the Association said, “The termination of the vital train service linking Guwahati and New Delhi at Kamakhya will inconvenience many passengers, as unlike Guwahati, Kamakhya does not have adequate infrastructure to support passengers needs.”Well placed sources in the NF Railway did not confirm or deny such a development, but admitted that steps are on to decongest the Guwahati railway station. As of now, the Kamakhya station is being developed as a facility to reduce the pressure on Guwahati. Some major trains have already started operation from the Kamakhya station connecting Assam with the rest of the country. | ||
