CHANDIGARH: The dense fog and overcast weather conditions will continue to prevail in the city even as the residents celebrate the New Year.Met officials have predicted the weather conditions would remain similar in this region for the next couple of days, following which; the weather would open up with a bright streak of sunshine. On Monday morning, fog reduced the visibility level up to 100m, which disrupted both road and rail traffic in the region. While the arrival and departure of trains at Chandigarh railway station was delayed by 30 to 60 minutes, the road traffic moved at snail's pace on city roads."We are expecting the weather to open up after the dense fog and dry weather of next two days, but there would be no relief from freezing cold conditions as mercury is expected to dip further during both day and night," said Surinder Paul, director of Chandigarh meteorological centre. He added, "Meting of snow in the upper reaches of Himalayas and hilly states would cause chilly winds to blow in this region even on sunny days. Ground frost would also occur in Chandigarh." Weathermen said the fog cover would start receding in the region after January 4 and would return by mid-January. On Monday, the maximum temperature in Chandigarh was 11.2 degrees Celsius, whereas minimum temperature was recorded at 7.3 degrees C. The sky will remain cloudy in the next 24 hours. | ||
