Train expected to ply on Mansarovar- Chandpole section by August 2013 Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (JMRCL) has received the first train set comprising four coaches, for its proposed mass rapid transport system (MRTS) in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Four coaches make one train set and a total of ten such trains will run in Jaipur under the metro project. The coaches are being manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML), Bangalore. Remaining nine trains are expected to be delivered in regular intervals by October 2013. JMRCL will be the first one to operate a metro train that has been solely designed and manufactured in India by an Indian company.Government of Rajasthan in October 2009 had proposed the MRTS in Jaipur. In January 2010, JMRCL was formed to implement the Rs.97 billion metro project. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd prepared the detailed project report (DPR). The Jaipur metro rail project will have two corridors - the East West Corridor and the North South Corridor.The East West Corridor will run from Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar, with a total length of 12.2 kms. Of which, 9.5 km long Mansarovar to Chandpole section (Phase I-A) is elevated while remaining 2.7 km will be underground (Phase I-B). The total length of the North South corridor will be 23 km from Ambabari to Sitapura. It will be taken up as Phase II of the project. JMRC in August 2010 appointed DMRC for development of Phase I-A from Mansarovar to Chandpole on ‘deposit work’ basis. | ||
