BHUBANESWAR: A majority of the 1,600 employees at the carriage repair workshop of East Coast Railway (ECoR) at Mancheswar are on a tool-down strike in support of their demands for the past seven days. The agitation since December 26 has affected repair of train coaches. The agitators are demanding withdrawal of close circuit television (CCTV) cameras from inside the workshop, a stop on outsourcing of work, proper toilet and canteen facilities for the workers and plying of town buses inside the railway colony besides refraining Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation from dumping domestic waste near the workshop. The workers said the CCTVs are meant to harass the workers. In the absence of proper canteen and toilet facilities, it is difficult for workers to operate for long hours. The municipality dumps are emanating foul smell, they said.ECoR authorities said the agitation has had a minimal impact on functioning of the workshop. The authorities are looking into the demands, an ECoR spokesperson said. | ||
