MUMBAI: A five-hour block on Western Railway (WR) on Sunday has led to cancellation and diversion of some trains, thereby creating inconvenience to the public. The WR is carrying out a jumbo block on the down slow lines between Mahalaxmi and Santacruz stations till 3.35pm.Said a senior WR official, "To carry out maintenance work of track, signalling and overhead equipments, a jumbo block is being undertaken between Mahalaxmi and Santacruz stations for five hours on down slow line. During the block period, all Down slow line trains will run on Down through (i.e. fast) lines between Mumbai Central and Santacruz stations."The diverted trains will not halt at Mahalaxmi, Elphinstone Road and Matunga Road for want of platform. Passengers at these stations have to travel in opposite direction and then change trains for their destinations between Bandra and Mumbai Central stations. All 12-car slow trains will take double halt at Lower Parel, Mahim Junction and Khar Road, an official said."Also, the level crossing gate number 19 situated between Bandra and Khar Road is closed for road traffic during the block period. Due to the block, some up and down local trains will remain cancelled, the list of which will be available at all stations," the official added. |
