Chennai: A 20-day-old baby abandoned by his mother in an express train was rescued by alert RPF personnel in Chennai on Friday.Leaving behind the child in Dadar Express at Egmore Railway station, the unidentified woman, aged about 20-year old, attired in churidar, disappeared from the place, according to sources.It is said that minutes before departure, a woman carrying the baby entered S7 compartment and occupied seat no 47.However, she left the compartment in a hurry and the co-passengers were hoping she would return soon. As time passed, the train moved out of the Egmore station. Passengers alerted the railway police, who in turn made arrangements to halt the train at Beach railway station.RPF inspector, Binnoy Antony, sub inspector. Muthupandi and head constable Palani have rushed to the compartment and rescued the baby. After feeding baby with milk, the personnel have alerted child rescue line.Based on the information, Don Bosco’s Anbu Illam volunteers reached the station and took the child to their shelter home. Meanwhile, railway protection force had been taking steps to identify the woman who had abandoned her baby and are verifying CCTV footage. Egmore RPF police have registered case and further enquiry is on. | ||
