190 members of MDMK were detained for attempting to stage a rail-roko in front of Coimbatore railway station. To condemn move made by Kerala government to construct a check dam across Bhavani River former MP and member of MDMK A Ganeshmurthy led protestors in front of Coimbatore railway station to stop trains. Protestors tried to enter the railway junction but were stopped and detained by police before staging any kind of protest. According to Ganeshamurthy more than 3.5 lakh acres of agricultural land receives water from Bhavani River for irrigation. Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode district farmers too depend on the river. If Kerala government will construct a dam over Bhavani River, all these districts will face a drought like situation. | ||
