Bengaluru Suburban Rail System has formed a joint venture with Indian Railways to convert as many as 15 pair of passenger trains into MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) trains.

The estimated cost is said to be 278 crore with each MEMU rake to cost around 10.3 crore rupees.

Following trains will be converted into MEMU trains -

  • 56231/56232,
  • 56233/56234,
  • 56263/56264,
  • 56237/56238,
  • Bengaluru-Marikuppam,
  • Bengaluru-Jolarpetai,
  • Bengaluru-Hindupur,
  • Bengaluru Cant- Bangarpet,
  • Bangarpet-Marikuppam and
  • Bengaluru-Bangarpet.

According to sources, as the MEMU service already operates between Bengaluru and Ramanagaram therefore, the same train could be extended up to Mandya.
