Owing to an hour-long drill at 12 stations, Metro services on all lines will be disrupted on Saturday. While the timing of the drill has not been disclosed, it is known that it will be conducted at twelve stations — Central Secretariat, Chandni Chowk, Karol Bagh, Badarpur, Dwarka Sector 11, Pitampura, Azadpur, Akshardham, Shahdara, Kirti Nagar, Noida City Centre and Guru Dronacharya station in Gurgaon. While Metro stations in Gurgaon and Noida have been included in the drill, the ones in the East district have been excluded from the list following Delhi Chief Election Commissioner’s request as a drill on EVMs is going to be conducted in that area. The drill is being conducted with the long-term aim of setting up an integrated disaster management system in the city by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).According to Vijay Dev, Delhi government’s Divisional Commissioner, incidents like bomb blasts, earthquakes and terrorist attacks will be enacted to check preparedness.Talking about a similar drill being conducted in February, Dev said, “The previous drill had raised a lot of awareness among citizens about disasters.” |
