After giving discount on trial basis in Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains, Indian Railways is set to offer similar 10% discount on vacant seats after chart is prepared on all trains. If seats are left vacant before 30 minute of scheduled departure time passengers can book their seats with 10% discount through e-ticket or through reservation counters.

The tickets in railway’s premium trains are already sold through flexi system which is affecting occupancy adversely. Under this system the price of last ticket sold, turns out to be 50% costlier than its actual price which are forcing passengers to opt for other trains or other modes of transportation; preferably air.

However, to book a vacant berth, you have to pay 40% more on basic fare anyway and other charges will remain same. Tatkal Quota in flexi fare trains are also reduced to a mere 10% in every class with broadening of Vikalp Scheme.
