Only daytime train catering to the needs of Tiruchi passengers: Exnora The Tiruchi District Exnora has requested the Railway Minister not to extend the Pallavan Express to Karaikudi. The Railway Minister’s proposal is very disheartening and has come as a rude shock to the people of Tiruchi, its honorary president C.Balasubramanian said in a statement here. The organisation has requested Tiruchi MP P.Kumar and Rajya Sabha MP Siva to immediately intervene and ensure that the Pallavan Express was not extended to Karaikudi as this was the only daytime train catering to the needs of the people of Tiruchi with full capacity. The Pallavan Express was being patronised by people of Tiruchi and its surrounding areas for more than 25 years, he said.Tiruchi, which was once the headquarters of the erstwhile South Indian Railways had lost four trains originating from Tiruchi due to extensions: Chennai-Tiruchi Rockfort Express to Kumbakonam; Coimbatore-Tiruchi Jan Shatabdhi to Mayiladuthurai; Ernakulam-Tiruchi to Karaikal; and Mysore-Tiruchi to Mayiladuthurai. Passengers from Tiruchi were unable to board the unreserved compartments of Rockfort, Ernakulam, and Mysore expresses. Now, it will become a difficult task for the passengers of Tiruchi to board the unreserved compartments of the Pallavan Express once it is operated from Karaikudi, he said. | ||
