Mumbai: Maharashtra State Police went down fighting 1-2 to Western Railway in the MHAL Super Division League at the MHAL ground on Friday. The two teams refused to give each other an inch in the first half, displaying some tight defence. The policemen, in particular, were quick to fend off a few attacking threats from the railwaymen. Both teams failed to convert their respective penalty corners, going goalless into the breather. Post the break, Western Railway showed the much-needed intent and just 10 minutes into it, Vinod Singh reverse flicked one straight into the nets. Four minutes later, some quick passing saw the railwaymen go 2-0 up, courtesy Jay Karan’s deft finish. The policemen came right back two minutes later, with Mukund Rajput scoring a delightful field goal. Luckily for Western Railway, their defence saw off the remaining 15 minutes and killed the threat of an upset. “We’re not happy with this result. We wanted to score at least five to six goals but we made errors at the centre and missed many opportunities that cost us those goals. We expected it to be a one-sided affair,” said Sunil Kumar Singh, Western Railway manager. Stopwatch: Western Railway 2 (V Singh 46th, J Karan 50th) bt Maharashtra State Police 1 (M Rajput 52nd) | ||
