KOZHIKODE: In a major boost to the rail-related infrastructure of the district, the government has decided to sanction the funds for the five pending developmental works including three rail overbridges and two underpasses.The meeting of ministers, top railway officials and people's representatives convened by chief minister Oommen Chandy in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday decided to make a deposit of Rs 17.3 crore to the railways for implementation of works under the deposit work scheme.The meeting also decided to allot Rs 50 crore for land acquisition of the projects in the next state budget.The meeting which was also attended by ministers Aryadan Mohammed, M K Muneer and Kozhikode MP M K Raghavan approved the estimates and project reports prepared by the five-member committee constituted by the chief minister for the purpose. The meeting also decided to commence the long-pending works at the earliest.The projects that have received the nod of the state government include setting up of underpasses at Elathur railway gate and at Vadakkumpad.

The committee has also prepared the estimates for construction of a railway overbridge at PT Usha Road, which has been promised in the railway budget of 2012-13. The long-pending demand for setting up a railway overbridge at Pavangad-Puthiyappa Road and ROB at Panniyankara is also among the list of projects that will be implemented.

Kozhikode MP, M K Raghavan said that the decision would enable the realization of the much-delayed projects, which would help in railway development of the region and will provide increased connectivity for the people.
