Hyderabad: Eight new express trains, 11 originating trains and eight pass-through trains, six extension trains apart from 20 new lines and doubling projects fell in South Central Rail-way’s kitty in the Railway Budget announced on Tuesday. The state had nothing to complain in the Railway Budget. Apart from 34 trains connecting the zone, setting up of a Coach Midlife Rehabilitation (MLR) Workshop at Kurnool, a Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) car shed at Kurnool, an exclusive centralised institute for Finance officers at the Secunderabad Indian Railways Institute of Financial Management (IRIFM), setting up of a Rail Neer Bottling Plant at Vijayawada, imparting skills to the youth in Railway-related trades at Kazipet and an allocation of Rs 437 crore for construction of new lines were announced for the state. Industry happy with projects for Andhra Pradesh Suchitra Ella, chairperson, CII Andhra Pradesh said, “Of the proposed 64 new trains, I understand that 12 trains will cross AP. Also, initiatives like Rail Neer Bottling Plant in Vijayawada, the Exclus-ive Lounge to encourage tourism in Visakhapat-nam etc., are welcome.” Railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal also allocated Rs 124 crore for passenger amenities as compared to Rs 100 crore in the previous Budget. Meanwhile, the huge Malayali community in the state is rejoicing because of the connecting trains with Kerala announced in the budget. "The Railway Budget gave comfort to 20 lakh Malayalis in AP. Two weekly trains, one from Visakhapatnam to Kollam and the other from Kach-eguda to Mangalore (via Calicut) were announced. We have been demanding a direct train since seven years,” said Mr Libby Benjamin, president of Confederation of AP Malayali Associations. “AP has been favoured with some new projects such as Indian Railway Institute of Financial Management at Secunderabad, Midlife Rehabilitation Workshop at Kurnool, among others,” said Fapcci, in a press release. | ||
