The state government has planned to complete the ambitious Rs 15,000-crore Metro rail project in Ahmedabad by 2021, the Assembly was informed on Friday.In the last two years (till December 2012), a total of Rs 377 crore has been allocated for the project and about Rs 14 crore has been spent so far, stated a written reply from the government in response to a question by Congress MLA Balwantsinh Rajput.In February 2010, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) — Metro-Link Express for Gandhinagar & Ahmedabad (MEGA) Company Ltd — was incorporated by the government to implement the project.In the 2013-14 state budget, the government has made a provision of Rs 550 crore for the implementation of the 76-km long project. A provision of about Rs 500 crore was made in the last budget.The project, planned to initially link the cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, will be implemented in phases.
