KOLKATA: Construction of the road overbridge to replace the level crossing gate No. 15A/3T on the Barrackpore-Barasat Road has been completed. The construction of the bridge was undertaken by Metro Railway on Eastern Railway's behalf. Officials said it will help ease congestion on the road and motorists will no longer have to wait at the level crossing gate for trains to pass.The length of the overbridge is 600 metres. Of this, a 60m stretch over the railway tracks was constructed by the railways at a cost of Rs 5.41 crore. The central span across five tracks is 30m long while the other two are 14 and 16 metres in length.The approaches of both sides, measuring 540m, have been constructed by the state government. Construction began in 2010. The overbridge has two lanes and the total cost of construction was nearly Rs 23.41 crore. "After taking over, minister of state for railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury took a lot of interest to ensure that work on the overbridge is completed fast. Barrackpore is a congested area and the structure will ensure both smooth running of trains and road vehicles," an ER official said. | ||
