In view of a good demand for creating satellite townships action plans must be made for satellite townships on three sides of the city, Minister for Ports and Infrastructure Ganta Srinivasa Rao said while conducting a review meeting on development of the city here on Monday.

Since preliminary survey was completed at Gudigundam and Gambheeram, he asked VUDA Vice-Chairman Kona Sasidhar to make preparations for creating satellite townships in the two areas.

The Minister also wanted plans made for a sports complex and a convention centre of international standards.

Collector V. Seshadri said a plan could be made for a metro rail or mono rail project in the city after consulting MD of Hyderabad Metro Rail A.V.S. Reddy.

Shortage of sand caused delay in completing the Central Park on the old Central Jail area, the VUDA Children’s theatre and some other works of VUDA, Mr. Sasidhar said. The Telugu Museum, Animal Park, the Central Park, Rushikonda beach work, Sagara Tarangalu and jogging track would be completed by December 15, he said and added that a proposal was sent to the Central government to launch a comprehensive traffic and studies.

The Centre could provide 80 per cent of the fund for the survey while the rest could be borne by the State government.

Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana was asked to get the GVMC Stadium vacated and bring it back to complete use by the sportspersons.

Government Whip Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao, Joint Collector Praveen Kumar, MLA M. Srinivasa Rao and GVMC’s Chief Engineer K. Jayarami Reddy attended.

Later, the Minister inspected the Asilmetta flyover works. He wanted the contractor executing the flyover to deploy more workers and staff and work at night to expedite completion. He said GVMC officials should coordinate with their counterparts in the Railways and the Transco and speed up work.

The Minister suggested alternative to continue work before the electric lines were shifted.
