NF Railway general manager R.S. Virdi today said new long-distance trains from the state could be introduced only after installation of a modern signalling system in Dhubri. He told reporters at the Dhubri gurdwara office here that AC three-tier had been introduced on the Dhubri-Silghat train from today. Despite the minor boost, Dhubri railway station is going through tough times, as, according to a source, a booking clerk was forced to run the station after the assistant superintendent was transferred to Salakti in February. "Only eight persons, including two booking clerks and one ticket collector, are managing four trains daily. There is also shortage of porters and sweepers," the source said.
