The Delhi division of Northern Railway has decided to operate an additional helpline and launch an SMS service for updates on train schedules during the fog season, which is set to begin on December 20.

“A manual telephone enquiry service will be provided during fog season. During winter, the existing 139 helpline is overloaded by passenger queries,” Northern Railway spokesman Neeraj Sharma said.

The SMS-based enquiry system will be available on 9717631813. This will be only for trains arriving and departing from New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal and Sarai Rohilla station.

Passengers will have to send the five-digit train number as a text message to 9717631813 and the system will give the expected time of arrival or departure of the train.
