PUNE: In a four-day special drive conducted at Talegaon, Shivajinagar, Chinchwad and Urli railway stations, the Pune railway division took action against 481 people traveling on wrong tickets and unverified luggage. A total of Rs 1.19 lakh was imposed as fine in these cases. The offenders were given a warning not to indulge in illegal act.The drive was conducted in the last week of November jointly by ticket checking staff and the railway protection force (RPF) officials. An official said that among 481 cases, a fine was imposed in 420 cases for traveling in a first class compartment, though passengers were holding a second class journey ticket. As many as 21 passengers were booked for continuing journey beyond stipulated station mentioned in the ticket. Forty passengers were asked to pay fine for non payment of luggage charges. An official said that most cases were caught in local trains on Pune-Lonavla track and Pune-Daund shuttle services.The railway administration has said that the drive against ticketless passengers and illegal travel will continue at the prominent stations in the division. An official said that additional ticket checking staff will be deployed at entry-exit gates at these stations, if required. Passengers have been asked to purchase authorized journey tickets from authorized vendors. | ||
