Bangalore : Advertisements are set to adorn the Namma Metro stations with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited inviting expression of interest for grant of advertising rights.According to the tender notification, out of the 40 stations being constructed under the Phase-I of Namma Metro (including six under operation along Reach 1), the selected entity would be granted licence for advertising space inside 39 stations.The display of advertisements will be allowed at three locations -  at the entry of the station, circulating point and near the platform - in each station. In respect of the six stations along Reach 1, a total area of 20,064 sq ft is available for advertisement, out of which 12,059 sq ft has been dedicated for backlit advertisement and remaining 8,005 sq ft for advertisements on wall graphics, a senior official from the BMRCL said. He said the station coming up at the Mantri Square-Sampige Road junction has been excluded for advertising as it was being developed on public private partnership basis.

Maximum space:The official said the Baiyyappanahalli station, where 4,174 sq ft has been allotted for advertisements, provides the maximum space, compared to other stations along the Reach 1.Two corridors under Phase 1, namely, East-West corridor from Baiyyappanahalli to Mysore Road covering a distance of 18.10 kilometre and the North-South corridor from Hesaraghatta to Puttenhalli covering 24.2 kilometre, would comprise 40 stations, of which 32 will be elevated, one at grade level and seven underground. The BMRCL has asked the bidders to submit their bids by January 18, 2013.Niranjan R, an urban planner, however, cautioned that the advertisement and their placing should not spoil the aesthetics of the Metro stations
