In order to facilitate the travel of legitimate passengers and to prevent the misuse of reserved ticketing by middleman, the Indian Railways has extended the condition of carrying identity cards to all the classes of reserved train tickets from December 1.RK Rana, public relation officer, northern railways, said that now the passengers during their train travel on reserved tickets issued through passenger reservation system (PRS) for all reserved classes including reserved second class, sleeper class, third economy class (3E) and first class will have to produce identification proof as and when asked. Earlier the ministry had made it compulsory to carry ID only for AC-3 tier, AC-2 tier, first class, AC chair car and executive class coaches and also for passengers travelling on e-tickets, tatkal tickets.Rana said that the decision has been taken in order to check the scope for travel on transferred tickets and to prevent black-marketing of the rail tickets.He added the list of nine prescribed proofs of identity has also been extended to add more variety of photo identity cards for the convenience of the passengers."The ministry has added photo identity cards having serial numbers issued by public sector undertaking of state, central government, district administrations, municipal administrations and panchayat administrations," he said. | ||
