It is quite surprising that none of the railway stations in the city have sufficient indicators. This is not the case when it comes to other big cities like Mumbai. Why are the Central Railway authorities so ignorant when it comes to such basic requirements?Let’s assume that indicators and station name plates at certain railway stations were removed due to maintenance work. But then why weren’t they put up after the job was completed? Or are there any other reasons to not put them back again? The Central Railways must give us an answer. Most stations on the Central and Harbour route have indicators which are half the time not working or function only for a few hours.Some indicators and announcement speakers are located at places from where they are hardly visible or audible. I suggest the Central Railways put up indicators at both the rear ends and at the centre of the stations, especially near the entrance. It help commuters know the train timings. The speakers also do not work most of the time. During mega blocks, there are no announcements by the CR authorities, thus adding to more chaos.Even when there are no blocks, announcements about delays are hardly made. There are times when a train does not leave the platform for a few minutes, but no announcements are made regarding this delay.The CR is supposed to make the commute of lakhs of daily passengers smooth and hassle-free. But I don’t see that is the case in Navi Mumbai.

The CR must bring a proper system in place to ease commuters’ woes.

We hear that the CR is planning several new facilities for Navi Mumbaikars to give a better travel experience. But while planning such facilities, the authorities must keep in mind the basic requirement of commuters. —Fabian Edward Misquitta, Panvel
