East Coast Railway (ECoR) has embarked on a plan to set up a modular base kitchen at City railway station and upgrade pantry cars with facilities to serve as storage and serving centres. Sources confirmed that ECoR was making concerted efforts to set up the base kitchens at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri railway stations. But Bhubaneswar station will be the first to install a base kitchen. “Land has been identified in the City to commission the kitchen within six months,” an official said. Interestingly, the Railways has banned cooking in trains by removing pantry cars in a phased-manner and planned to set up mega, medium and minor base kitchens at railway stations. The Railways is working on redesigning the way the food is being made and served to passengers to prevent fire mishaps in trains as it is dangerous to cook food and pack it in a small carriage. “Process has been expedited to set up | ||
