Angry villagers in Greater Noida blocked rail traffic for close to four hours on Thursday morning, protesting against the delay in police action in an alleged dowry death case.Police officers said about 500 villagers congregated near Maicha railway crossing between 7 am and 11 am and staged a sit-in on the tracks — blocking six trains, including the Rajdhani from Howrah and the Kalka Mail. The FIR states that the body of 25-year-old Renu, who was married to Narender of Palwal, Haryana, was found on Thursday morning near the railway tracks after she allegedly went out with him the previous night.“The body bore grave injury marks. Her clothes were strewn nearby. We have sent the body for autopsy to check for sexual assault,” an officer said.“Renu and Narender got married about 10 months ago. Her family alleged that she has been under pressure from Narender’s relatives to bring more dowry, especially a bigger car. The family members also alleged that she had been threatened ,” an officer said.Police said Renu came to her parents’ home in Greater Noida, ten days ago.“On Wednesday night, she told her relatives that Narender had asked her to come to the fields outside the village. He said he wanted to talk to her. She didn’t return home the entire night and her body was found near the railway tracks at 5.45 am,” a relative said.“People were angry and upset over the death. As police didn’t pick up the phone when we dialed 100 several times, the people decided to block the railway tracks. By then, people from neighbouring Ajaitpur and Budaki villages have also gathered,” Ram Kumar Yadav, who lives in the neighbourhood, said.“This forced senior police officers to rush to the spot and the SSP assured strict action against the guilty,” he said.Police said separate cases of dowry death and harassment or cruelty to a woman have been registered. | ||
