Inspector General of Police, Railways, R. Arumugam directed the police personnel to keep a tab on ex-offenders, who were involved in theft cases reported on moving trains in the State.The direction was given after two suitcases containing 12.8 kg of gold ornaments worth over Rs. 3.5 crore went missing from three employees of a Chennai-based private wholesale jewellery store travelling in the Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai express a few days ago.Mr. Arumugam, who conducted an inquiry at the Erode railway station on Tuesday night, said police had identified 35 ex-offenders who were involved in similar thefts reported on moving trains. The personnel had been asked to keep track of these offenders and report their whereabouts.Police were also asked to collect the details of the persons with whom the three employees dealt with during their stay in Coimbatore. The agents who facilitated the business transactions, the travel agent who booked the ticket and others who came in contact with the trio would be enquired, he said.Mr. Arumugam further said persons carrying valuables on trains should seek the help of police personnel who were deployed for security on trains. | ||
