Western railways have fined 30,000 passengers in the past 11 months for various violations at Indore railway station. A report was issued recently in this regard by the Ratlam division of the western railways.Out of total 29000 offenders, the Railway police Force alone have acted against 28750 offenders. The highest number of offences has been registered on travelling without ticket in compartment, boarding train roofs, crossing railway track and without platform ticket. As per the railway commercial office, Rs 9.51 lakh have been recovered in fines from 9535 commuters caught travelling on train roofs. Next, Rs 6.80 lakh was recovered from those travelling without ticket. Rs 3 lakh have been recovered from 7398 passengers found misbehaving with fellow passengers or railway staff. Likewise, Rs 1.77 lakh have been recovered from passengers found with combustible or other banned substances. Nearly Rs 1.11 lakh have been recovered from 176 passengers accused of chain pulling without reason. The railways also recovered Rs 2.50 lakh from 1358 male passengers caught travelling in compartments reserved for females. Apart from this displaying social responsibility RPF booked 250 persons found smoking on a public premises-railway platform/train- and recovered Rs 2.50 lakh in fine under provisions of the COTPA Act.
