The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) started special services to Pampa from Chengannur on Wednesday.Akhila Bharatha Ayyappa Seva Sanghom (ABASS) national vice-president D. Vijayakumar flagged off the first special service to Pampa from the Chengannur railway station.Suja John, municipal chairperson, inaugurated the KSRTC operating centre at the Chengannur railway station. The KSRTC has sanctioned 100 buses to the Chengannur depot for conducting special services to Pampa. Thirty-five buses reached the depot on Wednesday, official sources said. Mr. Vijayakumar said the Chengannur railway station had recorded a record collection of Rs.3.28 crore during the previous Sabarimala pilgrim season. He said the Sanghom would start Annadanam and open a pilgrim amenity-cum-information centre at the railway station on Friday.Both Railways and the Health Department would open healthcare units with ambulance facility at the railway station during the pilgrim season.Union Minister of State for Labour Kodikunnil Suresh has also promised to provide a healthcare facility of the Employees State Insurance Corporation at the railway station.
