Railwaymen belonging to South Central Railway Mazdoor Union began a 24 hour hunger strike from 8 a.m. on Tuesday, seeking steps to improve passenger safety and filling of two 2 lakh vacant posts, apart from holding elections to the recognised trade union through secret ballot. The protest led by union president C. Shankar Rao and secretary V.P.R. Pillai was in response to a call by the Central Working Committee. The leaders expressed disappointment at what they termed ‘total inaction’ of the Railway Ministry. | ||
