Railways is directly linked with the safety and comfort of passengers and hence the priority should be accorded to safe and wise use of electrical energy in the operation of trains, said P. V. Vaidialingam, Divisional Railway Manager.Speaking at a seminar on ‘electrical safety' organised by the Electrical Department of Tiruchi Railway Division, as a culmination of electrical safety week observed throughout the division, Mr. Vaidialingam called upon staff to be well versed in change in technologies of the electrical equipments for its safe and effective use.S. A. Abdul Rahman, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, also spoke on the seminar.A presentation on electrical hazards awareness was given by T. John Aruldoss, Divisional Electrical Engineer. Every year the electrical safety week is observed from May 2 - 8.This year, during the week, training was imparted on safe working practice to the employees at electrical depots of the division at Tiruchi, Ponmalai, Thanjavur, Villupuram, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai and Vridhachalam. Three hundred staff members participated in the training programme.A special drive was also conducted to check earth resistance and insulation resistances in the 23 sub-stations in the division.In order to create awareness among the staff, a quiz competition was conducted at the depot level of electrical department of and prizes were given to13 winners.Brochures on electrical safety were also distributed among travelling public during the safety week. |
