The Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HKCCI) has reiterated the demand for the establishment of a railway divisional headquarters here as recommended by the Sareen Committee way back in 1984. The Railway Board had rejected the demand citing feasibility reasons. In a memorandum submitted to Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa during Round Table discussions in Bangalore on Saturday — a copy of which was released to the media — HKCCI president Umakant Nigudgi said that for administrative convenience and operational efficiency of the Railways, a new railway division at Gulbarga was essential.States such as Tamil Nadu, which had smaller geographical area, had six railway divisions, while Karnataka had only three: in Bangalore, Mysore and Hubli, he said. |
