A function organised by the South Western Railway to inaugurate various facilities at the Oorgaum railway station in Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) on Saturday turned out to be an affair of Railway officials as code of conduct is in force here in view of the elections to the Legislative Council from the south-east teachers' constituency.Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa was slated to inaugurate the facilities and he reached the venue to participate in the function. But, he could not inaugurate any of the facilities as the code of conduct was in force.

Planned earlier
Apparently to avoid any embarrassment, instead of cancelling the function as it was fixed even before the calendar of events of polls to the Legislative Council was announced on May 9, the Railway authorities decided to conduct it as per schedule but in a different way. Rain also played spoilsport to some extent on the occasion. So, A.K. Mittal, General Manager of South Western Railway, inaugurated the electrification of Bangarpet-Marikuppam section. Besides, he flagged off MEMU passenger extension train no. 66532 from Bangarpet to Marikuppam.

Minister, MLA missing
Minister for Textiles and district in-charge Varthur Prakash and KGF MLA Y. Sampangi were conspicuous by their absence.

MLCs V.R. Sudarshan and Nazir Ahmad, and South Western Railways Deputy Regional Manager S. Mani were among those who participated.
