Stoppage for all trains at Tirupur, an express service from Tirupur to Chennai and better facilities at Tirupur Railway Station were some of the demands evolved out of the meeting organised by Tirupur Train Passengers Welfare Association here on Monday.Association coordinator J. Gunasekar told The Hindu that a representation highlighting the requisitions aired by railway users in the meeting would be submitted to Divisional Railway Manager in Salem within the next few days.“We will be asking for an express train starting from Tirupur station to Chennai, either as an overnight service or as an inter-city day service, since the large number of passengers originating their journey from the knit city now are dependent on trains passing through the station,” he said. The Association was of the opinion that considering the growing status of Tirupur from an erstwhile town to the present buzzing city, the railways should stop all trains at Tirupur stations.“At present, about six trains are not stopping at Tirupur,” Mr. Gunasekar pointed out.Another major issue deliberated was the apathy shown by the Railways to the travelers' grievances pertaining to poor maintenance of passenger trains passing through Tirupur. |
