Golden Rock Railway Workshop has carried out intermediate overhauling on 1,510 bogies for Southern Railway during 2011-12, meeting nearly 41 per cent of Southern Railway’s annual requirement, its Chief Workshop Manager P.Mahesh said here on Wednesday.Though the workshop had a capacity to handle only 25 per cent of Southern Railway’s annual periodic overhauling, it had delivered over and above the capacity, he said delivering the Independence Day address at the workshop.During the same year, the workshop has also carried out periodic overhauling on 809 coaches including air-conditioned and non air-conditioned coaches. The overhauling requirement of these coaches was increased to 18 months from the normal 12 through the use of wear-resistant material.During 2011-12, the workshop has completed periodic overhaul of 138 diesel locos against the target of 79. The carriage body shop of the workshop, which takes up heavy corrosion repair, too has improved productivity, delivering 12 coaches a month from just eight during 2010-11. The wheel shop repair section had attended to an all time high of 8,123 wheel sets to meet the demands of the workshop and divisions during the current financial year.The workshop has bagged orders from Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) for the manufacture of ‘BLC’ and ‘BLL’ type wagons. The workshop has despatched seven BLL rakes of 40 wagons and all the 15 rakes ordered would be delivered by December.The CONCOR has also placed an order for 1,000 BLC type container wagons and made an advance payment of Rs.70 crore. Railway Board has also given the workshop an order for 360 BOXN HL stainless steel wagons. During the current year, the workshop is expected to make BTFLN tank wagons, he said.The RITES has approached the workshop for manufacture of 16 WDS6 locos for domestic use, 40 metre gauge locos for Myanmar Railways and overhauling of sub assemblies such as power pack, turbo super charger, traction generator, traction motor and wheel sets for Mozambique during the current financial year, Mr. Mahesh disclosed.The workshop, he pointed out, had obtained ISO-9001 accreditation for quality management and ISO-14001 for environment management system. It also received OHSAS-18000 certification for promotion of labour safety.Though these certifications, an integrated management system certification was also obtained. |
