Title - Western Railways launches drive to prevent touts from cornering tickets

MUMBAI: In view of heavy demand for tickets due to ensuing festive season, Western Railways Anti-Tout squad of Mumbai Division has launched prevention checks and caught touts engaged in illegally selling railway tickets.

Sharat Chandrayan, Chief Public Relations Officer, WR said, During these surprise checks against the touts menace at various locations in Mumbai, Anti tout squad caught 5 persons selling railway tickets illegally. As many as 78 railway tickets were seized from them while an amount of Rs. 78,000 was also recovered from them.

Apart from drive, the railways have also taken several measure to prevent touts or agents from cornering ticket. It also introduced a rule whereby passengers booked through Passenger Reservation System (PRS) for travel by the air-conditioned coach will have to carry a photo-identity card to prevent unauthorized transfer of the tickets.Tt has also cautioned booking clerks to desist from accepting more than one reservation slip at PRS after Comptroller and Auditor General of India ( CAG) pointed that multiple slips were accepted from rail travel service agent (RTSA) representatives, in violation of the prescribed procedure.

Western Railway has starting uploading the chart mentioning the clearance position of Wait Listed ticket on their website. By studying this chart, a passenger will be able to make probable choice to eithera book or cancel his/her unconfirmed ticket in long distance trains.

Many passengers do not have any clue of how the system works. Most are unable to assess whether waitlisted ticket beyond particular number has any chances of getting confirmed.

Chandrayan said, We have begun uploading the waitlisted clearance position chart of preceding three days of some important stations. The chart will provide confirmation details of waitlisted ticket for all classes, including Sleeper, AC 3 tier, AC 2-tier and AC First class. The passengers need to be educated about the system to prevent them from falling into the trap of tout.
