Title - Western Railway is gearing up for monsoon

Western Railway has geared up for upcoming monsoon to keep local train services running uninterrupted. In order to keep services running Western Railway has started cleaning of culverts, installations of pumps, special maintenance of infrastructure, desilting of side drains etc.

Besides this Western Railways has also conducted analysis of Rainfall and Flood prone areas to identify flood prone areas like Grant Road, Elphinstone Road, Dadar, Matunga Rd-Mahim yard, Bandra-Khar, Andheri-Jogeshwari and Nalasopara-Virar sections.

A new time table has also been framed by railways which will help in taking necessary precautions.

Following pre-monsoon action has been taken by Railways –

  • De silting and cleaning of all 41 culverts
  • Lifting of tracks in low line areas
  • Installation of 88 diesel pump set in vulnerable low lying locations like Marine Lines, Mumbai Central, Dadar, Matunga Road, Mahim, Bandra, Andheri, Borivali, Nalasopara, Virar etc.
  • Monsoon related maintenance work of EMU suburban rakes
  • Cutting of vulnerable trees in the vicinity of track
  • De silting of side drains.
  • Running of muck specials during nights to clear the muck and garbage when required.
