CHANDIGARH: Better rethink those rail journey plans during these summer holidays. The waiting list for some of the popular trains plying from the city is extending from 100 to 400, goading the railway department to place additional bogies to deal with the rush. The route between Chandigarh and Lucknow, Bandra, Allahabad, Howrah, Kochuveli, Chennai and Dibrugarh is witnessing the maximum rush. The waiting list for trains on these routes is only 25 to 40 on weekends during the year, but has now peaked.Parveen Kumar, superintendent, Chandigarh railway station, says, "The rush in these trains keeps on increasing every year but this time it has gone up by 20% as compared to the last year.""The rush between Delhi and Chandigarh remains the same throughout the year but even eight trains are not enough to cater to the passengers in this season," Kumar added. |
