Title - VIKALP scheme extended to passengers booking tickets from counters

VIKALP scheme has been extended to wait-listed passengers who booked tickets from counters, by Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

Earlier, VIKALP scheme is an option that provided alternate train accommodation scheme (ATAS) for tickets booked through online. Now passengers booking tickets from counters can opt for confirmed accommodation in alternate trains. Railway wants to utilize available accommodation through this system.

However, it must be noted that VIKALP does not mean that confirmed berth will be provided to passengers in an alternate train.
