Railway has to stop its conversion work of Udaipur – Ahmedabad railway line from meter gauge to broad gauge as villagers Behna gram panchayat in Dungarpur district demanding construction of underbridge held up track. According to villagers they are unable to commute their homes from fields due to railway track. Also for cattle grazing they need to cross railway track which is very risky for themselves and their cattle. Another problem which railway is facing that newly laid railway line is passing through their fields and is holding up their agriculture work the only source of their livelihood. With the only pathway from home to fields taken away by railways, villagers are demanding an under bridge for movement from home to fields. After blocking transporting construction vehicles a dharna is staged by villagers on the track. DRM Ajmer said that a recommendation has already been sent by collector for underbridge construction and budget assessment is on. Though the work is disrupted at Behna, dismantling of current meter gauge track, the laying and linking of main broad gauge lines, track tampering, spreading of ballast, loop lines, sidings and other ancillary works are currently in progress at Jaisamand Road, Semari and Rishabdeo segments in the Udaipur-Dungarpur section. |
