Ambala (Har): Two girls aged five and three years were today found abandoned in a train here, with police suspecting that abject poverty may have forced their parents to leave them behind. The girls were found weeping inconsolably in Haridwar- Ganganagar Express. As soon as the train stopped at Ambala City railway station, the passengers handed them over to the railway police post. While the elder one identified herself as Nagma (5), the younger one, aged around 3 years, could not tell anything about herself. The identity of their parents could not be ascertained, a Government Railway Police official said. Railway police post incharge Avtar Singh Ahluwalia said that some of the passengers of the train handed over the two girls to him this morning. It could not be ascertained from which station the girls had boarded the train. It appears that poverty could have driven their parents to leave them behind, but other angles were being investigated as well, he said. The railway police later handed over the girls to Child Line Society (CLS) volunteers, an NGO which takes care of abandoned children and destitute. |
