KOLKATA: South Eastern Railway (SER) organised a two-day workshop for station managers of important stations at its headquarters in Kolkata from Friday. This was probably the first time that the station managers - who play a crucial role in not only managing the stations but also train services - got an opportunity to interact directly with the top management and air their views.Among the senior officers who attended the meeting were Pramod Kumar, additional general manager, SER, chief operations manager G K Mohanty and C B K Singh, chief operations manager. The workshop comprised presentations through which the management tried to put forward their expectations to the station managers and an open house session in which the latter aired their views."The two-day seminar was the brainchild of SER general manager A K Verma who couldn't be present due to his commitment in Dibrugarh, Assam. He is also holding additional charge as general manager/construction, Northeast Frontier Railway. The seminar was co-ordinated by Mukul Jain, chief passenger transportation manager, SER. On Friday, presentations were made on human motivation and leadership, passenger amenities, customer care, passenger complaints, public relations and media management, station accounts, roster and leave rules and time management. On Saturday, seminars were held on safety inspections, rolling stock, computerisation, locomotives and disaster management," said Soumitra Majumdar, CPRO, SER.According to him, station managers from 37 stations attended the workshop. Among the stations were Howrah, Kharagpur, Tatanagar, Rourkela, Ranchi, Hatia, Purulia and Bankura. |
