PUNE: Train commuters on Monday were at the receiving end as four trains on the Mumbai-Pune route reached Pune station late following a technical fault faced by the Deccan Express in the Ghat section. The Deccan Express reached at least three hours late, while other trains plying on the same route including the Mumbai-Bangalore Udyan Express, Mumbai-Kolhapur Koyna Express and Manmad-Pune Express were delayed by at least half-an-hour.Some commuters, who were travelling in the Deccan Express, said that the train stopped suddenly in the Ghat section. Though the railway staff rushed to the spot, the fault could not be repaired for a long time. The train was stopped on the spot for nearly one-and-half hours after the incident. The Deccan Express commuters travelled in other trains up to Pune station. The commuters pointed out that the railway administration should have taken quick steps to resolve the problem. They also said that the railway administration needed to implement additional safety measures especially in the Ghat section.Railway officials said the Deccan Express left Karjat on time. The train, however, stopped near Monkey hill due to a fault found with a buffer -- which connects two coaches of train - of a second class compartment. The train travelled up to the Lonvala station, where the coach with the faulty buffer was detached. The train then left for Pune station. tnn |
