Train services, suspended at 8.30 p.m. on Sunday through the B-line between Kanjikode and Walayar railway stations, following a landslip in the forest area, were restored by 6 p.m. on Monday. The first train to pass through the restored stretch was the Coimbatore-Thrissur passenger at 6.25 p.m. The closure of the line had delayed services by 20 to 30 minutes as all trains had to be routed through the A-line, officers of the Palakkad Division said.In the landslip, 300 metre of track was damaged as it got submerged in mud and water. The landslip was spotted by the loco pilot of a goods train that was coming to Kanjikode from Coimbatore at 8.30 p.m. on Sunday. The driver stopped the train after he noticed water on the track. But four bogies of the train got trapped in mud. The front and rear bogies of the train were detached and the stuck ones towed out later. The track repair started soon after, they said. A couple of houses were damaged and paddy fields got submerged in water following the landslip. |
