Train services on Mysore–Bangalore section was normal on Tuesday after the chaos that prevailed because of the Cauvery agitation in Mandya, resulting in cancellation and rescheduling of most services on Monday.Officials in the Mysore Division of the South Western Railway told The Hindu that all incoming and outgoing trains were running on schedule but the number of outbound passengers was relatively less on Tuesday being a holiday.Staff manning the commercial section said they had issued 4,000 tickets till noon which was slightly less compared to other days and attributed the slight dip in passenger traffic to Monday’s agitation which may have forced short-distance commuters to cancel trips while the season ticket holders who commute daily between Mysore and Bangalore for work were absent as it was a holiday. Officials, however, pointed out that the disruption on Mysore–Bangaloe section did not affect the train and passenger movement on the Hassan–Ariskere or Mysore–Chamarajanagar sections. The city railway station — which is a beehive of activity with the arrival and departure of trains — witnessed the movement of incoming and outgoing passengers, though the flurry of activity associated with holiday season or normal working day was not present. Mysore station is patronised by nearly 50,000 passengers and daily and the number increases during Dasara and the holiday season. |
