Bathinda : The engine of the Kalka Mail caught a minor fire near the Handhiaya railway station today. The train got delayed for over an hour due to the incident. Railway officials said no major damage was reported. Government Railway Police officials said the train arrived at the Barnala railway station at 2.25 am and its drivers noticed some spark in the battery area of the engine. The train was stopped after fire erupted in the engine near the Handhiaya railway station at 2.55 am.The driver turned off the engine and informed the authorities. The officials said the driver adopted a pro-active approach and decided to halt the train to check the spread of fire.Two fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. An alternative engine reached the spot at 3.25 am and the train left its onward journey at 3.50 am. |
